Help me brother Aprilia is leaking non stop I changed three gaskets
Irresponsible advice for road riding.
How to spot a novice: position A.
haha this is toooo sweet
Coming from motocross into street riding I mostly ride on the balls of my feet with my toes pointed in. This allows me to keep my knees engaged and use my lower body for most of my bikes handling
Your videos are full of technical content, the major reason I watch your channel, (subscribed too). If it’s not too much beneath you, how about a video on loading a trailer? I’d like to hear / see your observations.
Unless engaged in shifting or braking, my foot is on the peg in a position I can easily stand up on the pegs for bumps or weight a peg when turning, it also helps, as an older rider on a sport bikes/sport touring, ease knee and hip pain as it provides easy ability to stretch and flex my joints as needed for those 10-12 hour riding days
My deepest condolences. Mat will be missed. He was a brilliant journalist, with a great sense of humor. Rest in peace.
Your tyres you can trust. But the pavement surface, you'd better not.
I've always ridden in position B/C naturally, A always looks and feels weird to me.
I'm confused...why would anyone object to dark smoke tinted visors? Been using one for years. Decades, actually. What's the concern?
Living in Indonesia, my guy pumps up my tires. I don't know the pressure. He says, it's good. I say thanks, click into gear and go 🤣
I don't corner like a pro, not even close, but I've been paying a lot more attention to posture and weight distribution since last year, trying to actually "get gud." I've found that position c really helps keep my centre of gravity over the tank/engine and does genuinely make it easier to keep loose elbows. I find if I throw my chin into the curve, the rest of my body follows, and the weight distribution shifts much more appropriately than my conscious efforts. I'm gonna try the outside foot gets re-planted thing; I can intuit how that would make it even easier to shift weight by involving my large leg muscles on that side. I don't weigh very much, though, so the benefits may be minimal. Thanks for the concise demonstration, very good moto content.
Big foot gang here. When you have flippers you always in the b/c position cos otherwise its uncomfortable AF...
I’m sure you’re talking about “ trail braking”. 1% front brake , more as required.
I'm gonna do this next time to my scooter
my friend sent me this video after i dropped my bike leaving my garage turning on icy leaves. very calm and informative, thank you.
I used to ride since I'm 9, starting on a pocket bike and gained around 10 years of experience on the street However I've lost my licence for 6 years and feel almost like a complete starter again I'm just taking it slow and as save as possible to regain the confidence required to not be scared at corners anymore
Came for the cornering, stayed for the philosophy! 😃
I'm gonna throw a shameless plug in here. We at the Utah SBA are doing an ART on June 30th. We would love for you to join us and practice this stuff in the real world.
How to change a tire in your own garage (as long as you have a $1200 tire changer)
I love this podcast. Please listen to what they are talking about. It is so true.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Any advice is appreciated. So thank you. My experience. And I have no idea how this works I only know is that it works having done it many times. Whenever I my bike is being funny finding neutral. I have checked my chain tension. Found it to be loose. Corrected it and my bike has shifted proper. If you understand how that works please teach me. It makes no sense to me.
GOLD TEACHINGS RIGHT HERE. Thank you Subbed.
Thanks and welcome
Great Job! I'm looking forward for the next video like this. If I may sugget a topic, it would be great having a video that analyses, with the same accurate details of this one, what is the "hands work" during a turn while being leaned. A part from the trailbraking approach or having set the right corner entry, the right mid corner speed as well as the corner exit, there are real life scenarios while those things must be changed for instance avoiding a sudden obstacle. Suppose the only way is overtaking, we know that accelerating during a turn tends to straighten up the bike while leaning further and steering more do the opposite. How are the hands behaiving in such manouvers? Should they give any steering input? I think the right answer will be once again "it depends" but it would be awesome to have a video of yours explaining all of this. Thanks a lot.
Great idea. I'll add it to the list.
@@CanyonChasers can’t wait!
What a beautiful road. I wish I had known about it in 2001 when I was in Utah. This video is good but could have been great without the dark tinted wind screen that often blocks most of the important forward view. The inserted window showing throttle and front brake works well.
I've never heard such a bunch of nonsense before. Anyone that knows how to ride a horse will tell you that ride a bike works under the same principles: - Your upper body movement and stability are controlled by your middle core, not your legs, not your arms. - You never rest your upper body weight on the horse (or bike) ! You need both hands free to steer the horse or doing something else (roping cattle, beheading enemies, pull clutch lever or brake) - Stirrups (or foot pegs) are an ammenity to rest your feet and ride confortably. By no means are intended to push or stand on them. And doesn't have any active part in keeping you mounted. - While turning, you only need to be properly seated to stay on, physics will do the rest. -if you need extra grip, you don't push, pull or hang from anywhere. You squeeze the tank (or the horse flanks) with your thighs to keep the lower legs free to do what you need (change gear or give the horse a cue).
your multi doesn’t look anywhere near 11! puts my 950S to shame. thanks for the tips and great videos, given me some inspiration to get mine nice and shiny again this weekend
nice to know i’ve been doing at least one thing correctly
This is awesome having the close up of your hand. I am practicing along with you. Cant wait to try it.
i only use this tips. when go for take alot of conerring, i use 28psi front, 29 rear
I always depress clutch on all corners
Please don't. It's better to leave the clutch out.
Because engine braking helps deceleration ?
I'm not sure about using the front brake in a corner. The front wheel has more weight, which means more grip, that is true. But all the grip you gain is consumed by the braking. I would understand engine braking via the rear wheel. The braking force takes rear wheel grip and you have got the same amount on the front wheel for free. Today's bikes with traction control keep some throttle themselves to brake just nicely without sliding. But I think you would love a little throttle in the corner riding a TL-1000 :) The line selection in corner is definitely key. Thank you.
Thank you so much to hear 👂 you coaching Gives me confidence
Lemme explain….
Don't ask physicists about motorcycle steering and stability. It's an engineering problem and was solved early in the eighties using Lagrange's equations of motion. Maybe it was solved earlier but not published. That's how back then many small European manufacturers made frames for the heavy Japanese four cylinder engines with improved stability and handling. Later many books have been published using simplified models trying to explain motorcycles without really fully covering the dynamics.
I remember getting told off for “shadowing the brake” when I was doing my beginner course, I remember making a comment about trying to remember not to do when I think they are looking.
Position B is practical for most riders. Position C is something definitely not possible when riding more than 200 plus miles, consistently and constantly. This WILL cramp your hamstring. For street riding, any position that doesn't let half the feet dangle forward to the peg is a good position. :)
Oh for sure. The expectation is to raise and flex the heel through the corner, not the entire time. Because, for sure, you'd end up with some pretty burly cramps if you tried to keep the leg flexed for 200 plus miles.
You really made me angry until you stated 'it depends'. 😊
Freddie Spencer is obviously a great motorcycle rider. I've been riding about 82.000 miles since 1978; but I don't understand what he's saying when giving advice at 30:30. I admire the teacher I had back in 1978. I understood everything he said. It takes more to being a good teacher than just being a good rider.
Hes basically talking about how he gets his lower body into position before the corner, which allows him to focus on upper body position and braking to help get the motorcycle to turn.
Bought a Wittler moped in 1973 to ride with my friends. I was allowed to ride off road in our garden. I really messed up that garden. I think my mother knew that what I learned there would reduce future accidents. She didn't like it when I bought a Suzuki GT550 but calmed down when she rode pillion on our local curvy roads. I didn't spare the throttle. I never had an accident apart from a front tyre puncture in 1978 on my Suzuki GT550 with my girlfriend as passenger on our way back from Monaco to Denmark. 66 years old I just bought a motorcycle again after a 36 year long break.
Been riding for 24years never taken a course so I was really unsure where this was going. My immediate thought was. My feet move. I am constantly subconsciously repositioning them depending on what I want the bike to do. Mostly I ride with my heel hooked on the peg toe beside the lever. But my inside toe always slides up onto the peg when approaching a corner.
I found your channel from your most recent foot placement video. This IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT your channel is literally the most helpful in mc content. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
I do not concur at all with this video. A motorbike corners like every other two wheeler. You learn it while doing it. Can you imagine a father explaining his four year old kid on his first bicycle how to negotiate a corner? No of course not. I'm riding motorcycles now for over 40 years (not scooters or semi scooters like Harleys) but real bikes and if you have to think about how to corner it's too late. Stay focused (in a car I made more mistakes because I got too comfy) and stay in flow. Read other drivers and control your right wrist. Put on a helmet and real motorcycling clothing. You already accepted the fact that a fatal or serious injury to a motorcycle rider involved in an injury crash is almost eight times the odds for a car driver. So it's your own responsibility and effort to lower that risk.
I never see a corner, because I’m looking to far ahead 🤪🤪😊👍
I love it!
Mister thats a 2x4 not a stick
Great deconstruction of a very important but often forgotten topic. I am often shocked how riders with years of experience and mileage, many of them right here doing motorcycle videos on RUclips, locking their feet in position A. I guess some people never learn.
Thank you! In the scheme of things foot position isn't the most important thing, but if we are striving to be the best riders we can be, every little bit helps, right?
So this past weekend I traveled to my favorite stretch of road that's a combination of sweepers and tight twisties. I applied what you said in the video, which, I knew, but I wasn't consciously applying. It works so great when I brought my heel closer to the bike. Does Ducati make spurs?!? Thanks for this, and I encourage viewers to make a conscious point of doing this.
That is awesome!
I tried the position C, and it's insane how light the bike becomes and how more controlled the corners are feeling. awesome advice man, I couldn't even imagine how big of a difference it could have made, it's insane
Its crazy, right!
@@CanyonChasers yeah
Nice Sir. Eryq here from Cabanatuan City Philippines ,working here in KSA.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I use a mix of B and C at the same time, switching to C for cornering depending how much lean I want going into it. Bit of an off topic question, rear brake lever without return spring. Ok or not? R&G rearsets.
It's not my favorite. You can be like Quartaro and use a rubber band to keep the brake lever up, and add some additional resistance. Thats what I've done.
@@CanyonChasers yeah, I was thinking about doing that but would it look tacky. I'm not tracking the bike and want it to look nice. Might have to go with practicality to the detrement of aesthetics. Thanks for the reply.
@@loftyintentions1985 I have a quick shot of what I did in this video around 6 minutes. I used a bicycle inner tube to create the strap. It doesn't look tacky at all IMHO. ruclips.net/video/3b8X3WIIcIg/видео.htmlsi=OV_PB_SMR164NnfY
@@CanyonChasers yeah, it doesn't look too bad. We're gonna try and fit a plate to the back of the rearset so I can use the standard brake light switch and see if we can use it as a point for a return spring. But if it's not feasible, I'll go with the rubber band/inner tube. Thanks for your help.
